Jesus Prays for Himself1Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Sona may glorify you,b 2since you gave him authority over all people,a a so that he may give eternal lifeb to everyone you have given him.c 3This is eternal life: that they may know you, the onlya trueb God, and the one you have sentc — Jesus Christ.d 4I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5Now, Father,a glorify me in your presence with that gloryb I had with you before the world existed.c Jesus Prays for His Disciples6“I have revealed your namea to the people you gave meb from the world.c They were yours, you gave them to me,d and they have kept your word.e 7Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, 8because I have given them the words you gave me.a They have received them and have known for certain that I came from you.b They have believed that you sent me. 9“I prayA for them. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me,a because they are yours. 10Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine,a and I am glorified in them. 11I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you.a Holyb Father, protectA them by your namec that you have given me, so that they may be oned as we aree one. 12While I was with them, I was protecting them by your name that you have given me. I guardeda them and not one of them is lost, except the son of destruction,A so that the Scriptureb may be fulfilled.c 13Now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in them. 14I have given them your word. The world hateda them because they are not of the world,b just as I am not of the world.c 15I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.a 16They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.a 17Sanctifya them by the truth;b your word is truth. 18As you sent me into the world,a I also have sent them into the world. 19I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth. Jesus Prays for All Believers20“I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word. 21May they all be one,a as you, Father, are in me and I am in you.b May they also beA in us, so that the world may believe you sent me. 22I have given them the glorya you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. 23I am in them and you are in me,a so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have lovedb them as you have loved me.c 24“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am,a so that they will see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world’s foundation. 25Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you,a and they have known that you sent me. 26I made your namea known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them and I may be in them.”b The Christian Standard Bible.
