| 1I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. | 1I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people-- |
| 2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. | 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. |

| 4who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. | 4who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. |

| 9And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. | 9I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, |
| 10For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. | 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. |
| 11Women should learn quietly and submissively. | 11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. |
| 12I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. | 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. |
| 13For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. | 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. |
| 14And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result. | 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. |
| 15But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty. | 15But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety. |
