| 1I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. | 1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; |
| 2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. | 2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. |
| 3This is good and pleases God our Savior, | 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; |
| 4who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. | 4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. |
| 5For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. | 5For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; |
| 6He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. | 6Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. |
| 7And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth. | 7Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. |
| 8In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy. | 8I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. |
| 9And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. | 9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; |
| 10For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. | 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. |
| 11Women should learn quietly and submissively. | 11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. |
| 12I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly. | 12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. |
| 13For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve. | 13For Adam was first formed, then Eve. |
| 14And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result. | 14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. |
| 15But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty. | 15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. |
