New Living Translation | King James Bible |
O LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from honest lips. | 1A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips. |
Declare me innocent, for you see those who do right. | 2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. |
You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night. You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong. I am determined not to sin in what I say. | 3Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. |
I have followed your commands, which keep me from following cruel and evil people. | 4Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. |
My steps have stayed on your path; I have not wavered from following you. | 5Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. |
I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. | 6I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. |
Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. By your mighty power you rescue those who seek refuge from their enemies. | 7Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. |
Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. | 8Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, |
Protect me from wicked people who attack me, from murderous enemies who surround me. | 9From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. |
They are without pity. Listen to their boasting! | 10They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly. |
They track me down and surround me, watching for the chance to throw me to the ground. | 11They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth; |
They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart— like young lions hiding in ambush. | 12Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places. |
Arise, O LORD! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword! | 13Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: |
By the power of your hand, O LORD, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants. | 14From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes. |
Because I am righteous, I will see you. When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied. | 15As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness. |
