New Living Translation | Christian Standard Bible |
“Sing, O childless woman, you who have never given birth! Break into loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem, you who have never been in labor. For the desolate woman now has more children than the woman who lives with her husband,” says the LORD. | 1"Rejoice, childless one, who did not give birth; burst into song and shout, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of the married woman," says the LORD. |
“Enlarge your house; build an addition. Spread out your home, and spare no expense! | 2"Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back; lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep. |
For you will soon be bursting at the seams. Your descendants will occupy other nations and resettle the ruined cities. | 3For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nations and inhabit the desolate cities. |
“Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. Don’t be afraid; there is no more disgrace for you. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood. | 4"Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; don't be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will no longer remember the disgrace of your widowhood. |
For your Creator will be your husband; the LORD of Heaven’s Armies is his name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth. | 5Indeed, your husband is your Maker--his name is the LORD of Armies--and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of the whole earth. |
For the LORD has called you back from your grief— as though you were a young wife abandoned by her husband,” says your God. | 6For the LORD has called you, like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit, a wife of one's youth when she is rejected," says your God. |
“For a brief moment I abandoned you, but with great compassion I will take you back. | 7"I deserted you for a brief moment, but I will take you back with abundant compassion. |
In a burst of anger I turned my face away for a little while. But with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD, your Redeemer. | 8In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but I will have compassion on you with everlasting love," says the LORD your Redeemer. |
“Just as I swore in the time of Noah that I would never again let a flood cover the earth, so now I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you. | 9"For this is like the days of Noah to me: when I swore that the water of Noah would never flood the earth again, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you. |
For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the LORD, who has mercy on you. | 10Though the mountains move and the hills shake, my love will not be removed from you and my covenant of peace will not be shaken," says your compassionate LORD. |
“O storm-battered city, troubled and desolate! I will rebuild you with precious jewels and make your foundations from lapis lazuli. | 11"Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will set your stones in black mortar, and lay your foundations in lapis lazuli. |
I will make your towers of sparkling rubies, your gates of shining gems, and your walls of precious stones. | 12I will make your fortifications out of rubies, your gates out of sparkling stones, and all your walls out of precious stones. |
I will teach all your children, and they will enjoy great peace. | 13Then all your children will be taught by the LORD, their prosperity will be great, |
You will be secure under a government that is just and fair. Your enemies will stay far away. You will live in peace, and terror will not come near. | 14and you will be established on a foundation of righteousness. You will be far from oppression, you will certainly not be afraid; you will be far from terror, it will certainly not come near you. |
If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent them. Whoever attacks you will go down in defeat. | 15If anyone attacks you, it is not from me; whoever attacks you will fall before you. |
“I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals beneath the forge and makes the weapons of destruction. And I have created the armies that destroy. | 16Look, I have created the craftsman who blows on the charcoal fire and produces a weapon suitable for its task; and I have created the destroyer to cause havoc. |
But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the LORD; their vindication will come from me. I, the LORD, have spoken! | 17No weapon formed against you will succeed, and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the LORD's servants, and their vindication is from me." This is the LORD's declaration. |
