New King James Version | New Living Translation |
Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. | 1Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD; it is fitting for the pure to praise him. |
Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. | 2Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. |
Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. | 3Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. |
For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth. | 4For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does. |
He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. | 5He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth. |
By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. | 6The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. |
He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. | 7He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. |
Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. | 8Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. |
For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. | 9For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. |
The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. | 10The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. |
The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. | 11But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. |
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. | 12What joy for the nation whose God is the LORD, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. |
The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. | 13The LORD looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. |
From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; | 14From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. |
He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. | 15He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. |
No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. | 16The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. |
A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. | 17Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory— for all its strength, it cannot save you. |
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, | 18But the LORD watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. |
To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. | 19He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. |
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. | 20We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield. |
For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. | 21In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. |
Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You. | 22Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone. |
