A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure! | 1A psalm of David. A petition. LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath. |
For Your arrows pierce me deeply, And Your hand presses me down. | 2Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down on me. |
There is no soundness in my flesh Because of Your anger, Nor any health in my bones Because of my sin. | 3Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin. |
For my iniquities have gone over my head; Like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. | 4My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear. |
My wounds are foul and festering Because of my foolishness. | 5My wounds fester and are loathsome because of my sinful folly. |
I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. | 6I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. |
For my loins are full of inflammation, And there is no soundness in my flesh. | 7My back is filled with searing pain; there is no health in my body. |
I am feeble and severely broken; I groan because of the turmoil of my heart. | 8I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart. |
Lord, all my desire is before You; And my sighing is not hidden from You. | 9All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you. |
My heart pants, my strength fails me; As for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me. | 10My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes. |
My loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague, And my relatives stand afar off. | 11My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away. |
Those also who seek my life lay snares for me; Those who seek my hurt speak of destruction, And plan deception all the day long. | 12Those who want to kill me set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they scheme and lie. |
But I, like a deaf man, do not hear; And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth. | 13I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak; |
Thus I am like a man who does not hear, And in whose mouth is no response. | 14I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply. |
For in You, O LORD, I hope; You will hear, O Lord my God. | 15LORD, I wait for you; you will answer, Lord my God. |
For I said, “Hear me, lest they rejoice over me, Lest, when my foot slips, they exalt themselves against me.” | 16For I said, "Do not let them gloat or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip." |
For I am ready to fall, And my sorrow is continually before me. | 17For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. |
For I will declare my iniquity; I will be in anguish over my sin. | 18I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. |
But my enemies are vigorous, and they are strong; And those who hate me wrongfully have multiplied. | 19Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me without reason are numerous. |
Those also who render evil for good, They are my adversaries, because I follow what is good. | 20Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good. |
Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me! | 21LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God. |
Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation! | 22Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior. |
