A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. | 1Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. |
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. | 2Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. |
When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. | 3When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. |
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah | 4For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. |
I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah | 5Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD." And you forgave the guilt of my sin. |
For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. | 6Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. |
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah | 7You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. |
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. | 8I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. |
Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. | 9Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. |
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him. | 10Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. |
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart! | 11Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! |
