A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.1By David; a well-written song. How blessed is the one whose rebellious acts are forgiven, whose sin is pardoned!
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.2How blessed is the one whose wrongdoing the LORD does not punish, in whose spirit there is no deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long.3When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away, while I groaned in pain all day long.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah4For day and night you tormented me; you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer. (Selah)
I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah5Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing. I said, "I will confess my rebellious acts to the LORD." And then you forgave my sins. (Selah)
For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.6For this reason every one of your faithful followers should pray to you while there is a window of opportunity. Certainly when the surging water rises, it will not reach them.
You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah7You are my hiding place; you protect me from distress. You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance. (Selah)
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.8I will instruct and teach you about how you should live. I will advise you as I look you in the eye.
Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.9Do not be like an unintelligent horse or mule, which will not obey you unless they are controlled by a bridle and bit.
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.10An evil person suffers much pain, but the LORD's faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!11Rejoice in the LORD and be happy, you who are godly! Shout for joy, all you who are morally upright!
