New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. | 1For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, |
For he flatters himself in his own eyes, When he finds out his iniquity and when he hates. | 2for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. |
The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit; He has ceased to be wise and to do good. | 3The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. |
He devises wickedness on his bed; He sets himself in a way that is not good; He does not abhor evil. | 4He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. |
Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. | 5O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. |
Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O LORD, You preserve man and beast. | 6Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. |
How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. | 7How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. |
They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. | 8They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. |
For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. | 9For you are the one who gives and sustains life. |
Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart. | 10Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! |
Let not the foot of pride come against me, And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away. | 11Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! |
There the workers of iniquity have fallen; They have been cast down and are not able to rise. | 12I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! |
