New King James Version | NET Bible |
“At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. | 1At this also my heart pounds and leaps from its place. |
Hear attentively the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that comes from His mouth. | 2Listen carefully to the thunder of his voice, to the rumbling that proceeds from his mouth. |
He sends it forth under the whole heaven, His lightning to the ends of the earth. | 3Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners of the earth. |
After it a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain them when His voice is heard. | 4After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts when his voice is heard. |
God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. | 5God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. |
For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength. | 6For to the snow he says, 'Fall to earth,' and to the torrential rains, 'Pour down.' |
He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work. | 7He causes everyone to stop working, so that all people may know his work. |
The beasts go into dens, And remain in their lairs. | 8The wild animals go to their lairs, and in their dens they remain. |
From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind, And cold from the scattering winds of the north. | 9A tempest blows out from its chamber, icy cold from the driving winds. |
By the breath of God ice is given, And the broad waters are frozen. | 10The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid. |
Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds; He scatters His bright clouds. | 11He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through the clouds. |
And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance, That they may do whatever He commands them On the face of the whole earth. | 12The clouds go round in circles, wheeling about according to his plans, to carry out all that he commands them over the face of the whole inhabited world. |
He causes it to come, Whether for correction, Or for His land, Or for mercy. | 13Whether it is for punishment for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark. |
“Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. | 14"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works. |
Do you know when God dispatches them, And causes the light of His cloud to shine? | 15Do you know how God commands them, how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud? |
Do you know how the clouds are balanced, Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge? | 16Do you know about the balancing of the clouds, that wondrous activity of him who is perfect in knowledge? |
Why are your garments hot, When He quiets the earth by the south wind? | 17You, whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind, |
With Him, have you spread out the skies, Strong as a cast metal mirror? | 18will you, with him, spread out the clouds, solid as a mirror of molten metal? |
“Teach us what we should say to Him, For we can prepare nothing because of the darkness. | 19Tell us what we should say to him. We cannot prepare a case because of the darkness. |
Should He be told that I wish to speak? If a man were to speak, surely he would be swallowed up. | 20Should he be informed that I want to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up! |
Even now men cannot look at the light when it is bright in the skies, When the wind has passed and cleared them. | 21But now, the sun cannot be looked at--it is bright in the skies--after a wind passed and swept the clouds away. |
He comes from the north as golden splendor; With God is awesome majesty. | 22From the north he comes in golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty. |
As for the Almighty, we cannot find Him; He is excellent in power, In judgment and abundant justice; He does not oppress. | 23As for the Almighty, we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice and abundant righteousness he does not oppress. |
Therefore men fear Him; He shows no partiality to any who are wise of heart.” | 24Therefore people fear him, for he does not regard all the wise in heart." |
