New King James Version | International Standard Version |
Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? | 1Why are the nations in an uproar, and their people involved in a vain plot? |
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, | 2As the kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his anointed one, they say, |
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” | 3"Let us tear off their shackles from us, and cast off their chains." |
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. | 4He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. |
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: | 5In his anger he rebukes them, and in his wrath he terrifies them: |
“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” | 6"I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain." |
“I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. | 7Let me announce the decree of the LORD that he told me: "You are my son, today I have become your father. |
Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. | 8Ask of me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession. |
You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” | 9You will break them with an iron rod, you will shatter them like pottery." |
Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. | 10Therefore, kings, act wisely! Earthly rulers, be warned! |
Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. | 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. |
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. | 12Kiss the son before he becomes angry, and you die where you stand. Indeed, his wrath can flare up quickly. How blessed are those who take refuge in him. |
