New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? | 1Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? |
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, | 2The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together, against the LORD and against His Anointed One: |
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” | 3“Let us break Their chains and cast away Their cords.” |
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. | 4The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them. |
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: | 5Then He rebukes them in His anger, and terrifies them in His fury: |
“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” | 6“I have installed My King on Zion, upon My holy mountain.” |
“I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. | 7I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father. |
Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. | 8Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession. |
You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” | 9You will break them with an iron scepter; You will shatter them like pottery.” |
Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. | 10Therefore be wise, O kings; be admonished, O judges of the earth. |
Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. | 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. |
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. | 12Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him. |
