New King James Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
To the Chief Musician. Set to “The Silent Dove in Distant Lands.” A Michtam of David when the Philistines captured him in Gath. Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me. | 1For the choir director: according to "A Silent Dove Far Away." A Davidic Miktam. When the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, God, for man tramples me; he fights and oppresses me all day long. |
My enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High. | 2My adversaries trample me all day, for many arrogantly fight against me. |
Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. | 3When I am afraid, I will trust in You. |
In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? | 4In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me? |
All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. | 5They twist my words all day long; all their thoughts against me are evil. |
They gather together, They hide, they mark my steps, When they lie in wait for my life. | 6They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps while they wait to take my life. |
Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God! | 7Will they escape in spite of such sin? God, bring down the nations in wrath. |
You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? | 8You Yourself have recorded my wanderings. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your records? |
When I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me. | 9Then my enemies will retreat on the day when I call. This I know: God is for me. |
In God (I will praise His word), In the LORD (I will praise His word), | 10In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, |
In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? | 11in God I trust; I will not fear. What can man do to me? |
Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You, | 12I am obligated by vows to You, God; I will make my thank offerings to You. |
For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living? | 13For You delivered me from death, even my feet from stumbling, to walk before God in the light of life. |
