New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea. | 1In that day the LORD will take His sharp, great, and mighty sword, and bring judgment on Leviathan the fleeing serpent—Leviathan the coiling serpent—and He will slay the dragon of the sea. |
In that day sing to her, “A vineyard of red wine! | 2In that day: “Sing about a fruitful vineyard. |
I, the LORD, keep it, I water it every moment; Lest any hurt it, I keep it night and day. | 3I, the LORD, am its keeper; I water it continually. I guard it night and day so no one can disturb it; |
Fury is not in Me. Who would set briers and thorns Against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together. | 4I am not angry. If only thorns and briers confronted Me, I would march and trample them, I would burn them to the ground. |
Or let him take hold of My strength, That he may make peace with Me; And he shall make peace with Me.” | 5Or let them lay claim to My protection; let them make peace with Me—yes, let them make peace with Me.” |
Those who come He shall cause to take root in Jacob; Israel shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit. | 6In the days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will bud and blossom and fill the whole world with fruit. |
Has He struck Israel as He struck those who struck him? Or has He been slain according to the slaughter of those who were slain by Him? | 7Has the LORD struck Israel as He struck her oppressors? Was she killed like those who slayed her? |
In measure, by sending it away, You contended with it. He removes it by His rough wind In the day of the east wind. | 8By warfare and exile You contended with her and removed her with a fierce wind, as on the day the east wind blows. |
Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be covered; And this is all the fruit of taking away his sin: When he makes all the stones of the altar Like chalkstones that are beaten to dust, Wooden images and incense altars shall not stand. | 9Therefore Jacob’s guilt will be atoned for, and the full fruit of the removal of his sin will be this: When he makes all the altar stones like crushed bits of chalk, no Asherah poles or incense altars will remain standing. |
Yet the fortified city will be desolate, The habitation forsaken and left like a wilderness; There the calf will feed, and there it will lie down And consume its branches. | 10For the fortified city lies deserted—a homestead abandoned, a wilderness forsaken. There the calves graze, and there they lie down; they strip its branches bare. |
When its boughs are withered, they will be broken off; The women come and set them on fire. For it is a people of no understanding; Therefore He who made them will not have mercy on them, And He who formed them will show them no favor. | 11When its limbs are dry, they are broken off. Women come and use them for kindling; for this is a people without understanding. Therefore their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator shows them no favor. |
And it shall come to pass in that day That the LORD will thresh, From the channel of the River to the Brook of Egypt; And you will be gathered one by one, O you children of Israel. | 12In that day the LORD will thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, O Israelites, will be gathered one by one. |
So it shall be in that day: The great trumpet will be blown; They will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, And they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt, And shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem. | 13And in that day a great ram’s horn will sound, and those who were perishing in Assyria will come forth with those who were exiles in Egypt. And they will worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem. |
