New International Version | New Living Translation |
Praise the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. | 1Let all that I am praise the LORD. O LORD my God, how great you are! You are robed with honor and majesty. |
The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent | 2You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens; |
and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds his chariot and rides on the wings of the wind. | 3you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds. You make the clouds your chariot; you ride upon the wings of the wind. |
He makes winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. | 4The winds are your messengers; flames of fire are your servants. |
He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. | 5You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved. |
You covered it with the watery depths as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. | 6You clothed the earth with floods of water, water that covered even the mountains. |
But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; | 7At your command, the water fled; at the sound of your thunder, it hurried away. |
they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them. | 8Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed. |
You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth. | 9Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth. |
He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. | 10You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains. |
They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. | 11They provide water for all the animals, and the wild donkeys quench their thirst. |
The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. | 12The birds nest beside the streams and sing among the branches of the trees. |
He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the land is satisfied by the fruit of his work. | 13You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor. |
He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth: | 14You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use. You allow them to produce food from the earth— |
wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts. | 15wine to make them glad, olive oil to soothe their skin, and bread to give them strength. |
The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. | 16The trees of the LORD are well cared for— the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. |
There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the junipers. | 17There the birds make their nests, and the storks make their homes in the cypresses. |
The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the hyrax. | 18High in the mountains live the wild goats, and the rocks form a refuge for the hyraxes. |
He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. | 19You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set. |
You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. | 20You send the darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals prowl about. |
The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. | 21Then the young lions roar for their prey, stalking the food provided by God. |
The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. | 22At dawn they slink back into their dens to rest. |
Then people go out to their work, to their labor until evening. | 23Then people go off to their work, where they labor until evening. |
How many are your works, LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. | 24O LORD, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures. |
There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number-- living things both large and small. | 25Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both large and small. |
There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there. | 26See the ships sailing along, and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea. |
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. | 27They all depend on you to give them food as they need it. |
When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. | 28When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied. |
When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. | 29But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. |
When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. | 30When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth. |
May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works-- | 31May the glory of the LORD continue forever! The LORD takes pleasure in all he has made! |
he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. | 32The earth trembles at his glance; the mountains smoke at his touch. |
I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. | 33I will sing to the LORD as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath! |
May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. | 34May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. |
But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, my soul. Praise the LORD. | 35Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever. Let all that I am praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! |
