New International Version | New Living Translation |
"At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people--everyone whose name is found written in the book--will be delivered. | 1“At that time Michael, the archangel who stands guard over your nation, will arise. Then there will be a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence. But at that time every one of your people whose name is written in the book will be rescued. |
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. | 2Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace. |
Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. | 3Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever. |
But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge." | 4But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.” |
Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank. | 5Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing on opposite banks of the river. |
One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?" | 6One of them asked the man dressed in linen, who was now standing above the river, “How long will it be until these shocking events are over?” |
The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, "It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed." | 7The man dressed in linen, who was standing above the river, raised both his hands toward heaven and took a solemn oath by the One who lives forever, saying, “It will go on for a time, times, and half a time. When the shattering of the holy people has finally come to an end, all these things will have happened.” |
I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, "My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?" | 8I heard what he said, but I did not understand what he meant. So I asked, “How will all this finally end, my lord?” |
He replied, "Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed until the time of the end. | 9But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end. |
Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand. | 10Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means. |
"From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. | 11“From the time the daily sacrifice is stopped and the sacrilegious object that causes desecration is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days. |
Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. | 12And blessed are those who wait and remain until the end of the 1,335 days! |
"As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance." | 13“As for you, go your way until the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you.” |
