For the director of music. A psalm of David. Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble. | 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble. |
The LORD protects and preserves them-- they are counted among the blessed in the land-- he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. | 2The LORD will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth; And do not give him over to the desire of his enemies. |
The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness. | 3The LORD will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness, You restore him to health. |
I said, "Have mercy on me, LORD; heal me, for I have sinned against you." | 4As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You." |
My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?" | 5My enemies speak evil against me, "When will he die, and his name perish?" |
When one of them comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it around. | 6And when he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; His heart gathers wickedness to itself; When he goes outside, he tells it. |
All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying, | 7All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt, saying, |
"A vile disease has afflicted him; he will never get up from the place where he lies." | 8"A wicked thing is poured out upon him, That when he lies down, he will not rise up again." |
Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me. | 9Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. |
But may you have mercy on me, LORD; raise me up, that I may repay them. | 10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up, That I may repay them. |
I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. | 11By this I know that You are pleased with me, Because my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. |
Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. | 12As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And You set me in Your presence forever. |
Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen. | 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen. |
