| 1It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. | 1Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to mistreat them. |

| 11Then Peter came to himself and said, "Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod's clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen." | 11When Peter came to himself, he said, "Now I know for sure that the Lord has sent forth His angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting." |

| 17Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. "Tell James and the other brothers and sisters about this," he said, and then he left for another place. | 17But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison. And he said, "Report these things to James and the brethren." Then he left and went to another place. |
| 18In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become of Peter. | 18Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers as to what could have become of Peter. |
| 19After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined the guards and ordered that they be executed. Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there. | 19When Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they be led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to Caesarea and was spending time there. |
| 20He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. After securing the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king's country for their food supply. | 20Now he was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king's chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because their country was fed by the king's country. |
| 21On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. | 21On an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel, took his seat on the rostrum and began delivering an address to them. |
| 22They shouted, "This is the voice of a god, not of a man." | 22The people kept crying out, "The voice of a god and not of a man!" |
| 23Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. | 23And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died. |
