Job 32
NET Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleEnglish Standard Version
So these three men refused to answer Job further, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Then Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became very angry. He was angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God.2Then Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, burned with anger. He burned with anger at Job because he justified himself rather than God.
With Job's three friends he was also angry, because they could not find an answer, and so declared Job guilty.3He burned with anger also at Job’s three friends because they had found no answer, although they had declared Job to be in the wrong.
Now Elihu had waited before speaking to Job, because the others were older than he was.4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he.
But when Elihu saw that the three men had no further reply, he became very angry. 5And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, he burned with anger.
So Elihu son of Barakel the Buzite spoke up: "I am young, but you are elderly; that is why I was fearful, and afraid to explain to you what I know. 6And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said: “I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you.
I said to myself, 'Age should speak, and length of years should make wisdom known.' 7I said, ‘Let days speak, and many years teach wisdom.’
But it is a spirit in people, the breath of the Almighty, that makes them understand. 8But it is the spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand.
It is not the aged who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right. 9It is not the old who are wise, nor the aged who understand what is right.
Therefore I say, 'Listen to me. I, even I, will explain what I know.' 10Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me; let me also declare my opinion.’
Look, I waited for you to speak; I listened closely to your wise thoughts, while you were searching for words. 11“Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your wise sayings, while you searched out what to say.
Now I was paying you close attention, yet there was no one proving Job wrong, not one of you was answering his statements! 12I gave you my attention, and, behold, there was none among you who refuted Job or who answered his words.
So do not say, 'We have found wisdom! God will refute him, not man!' 13Beware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not a man.’
Job has not directed his words to me, and so I will not reply to him with your arguments. 14He has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your speeches.
"They are dismayed and cannot answer any more; they have nothing left to say. 15“They are dismayed; they answer no more; they have not a word to say.
And I have waited. But because they do not speak, because they stand there and answer no more, 16And shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand there, and answer no more?
I too will answer my part, I too will explain what I know. 17I also will answer with my share; I also will declare my opinion.
For I am full of words, and the spirit within me constrains me. 18For I am full of words; the spirit within me constrains me.
Inside I am like wine which has no outlet, like new wineskins ready to burst! 19Behold, my belly is like wine that has no vent; like new wineskins ready to burst.
I will speak, so that I may find relief; I will open my lips, so that I may answer. 20I must speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer.
I will not show partiality to anyone, nor will I confer a title on any man. 21I will not show partiality to any man or use flattery toward any person.
for I do not know how to give honorary titles, if I did, my Creator would quickly do away with me. 22For I do not know how to flatter, else my Maker would soon take me away.
