By David. O LORD, I come before you in prayer. | 1Of David. To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul; |
My God, I trust in you. Please do not let me be humiliated; do not let my enemies triumphantly rejoice over me! | 2in You, my God, I trust. Do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me. |
Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated. Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted and humiliated. | 3Surely none who wait for You will be put to shame; but those who are faithless without cause will be disgraced. |
Make me understand your ways, O LORD! Teach me your paths! | 4Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. |
Guide me into your truth and teach me. For you are the God who delivers me; on you I rely all day long. | 5Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; all day long I wait for You. |
Remember your compassionate and faithful deeds, O LORD, for you have always acted in this manner. | 6Remember, O LORD, Your compassion and loving devotion, for they are from age to age. |
Do not hold against me the sins of my youth or my rebellious acts! Because you are faithful to me, extend to me your favor, O LORD! | 7Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my rebellious acts; remember me according to Your loving devotion, because of Your goodness, O LORD. |
The LORD is both kind and fair; that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live. | 8Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He shows sinners the way. |
May he show the humble what is right! May he teach the humble his way! | 9He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way. |
The LORD always proves faithful and reliable to those who follow the demands of his covenant. | 10All the LORD’s ways are loving and faithful to those who keep His covenant and His decrees. |
For the sake of your reputation, O LORD, forgive my sin, because it is great. | 11For the sake of Your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, for it is great. |
The LORD shows his faithful followers the way they should live. | 12Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the path chosen for him. |
They experience his favor; their descendants inherit the land. | 13His soul will dwell in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land. |
The LORD's loyal followers receive his guidance, and he reveals his covenantal demands to them. | 14The LORD confides in those who fear Him, and reveals His covenant to them. |
I continually look to the LORD for help, for he will free my feet from the enemy's net. | 15My eyes are always on the LORD, for He will free my feet from the mesh. |
Turn toward me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and oppressed! | 16Turn to me and be gracious, for I am lonely and afflicted. |
Deliver me from my distress; rescue me from my suffering! | 17The troubles of my heart increase; free me from my distress. |
See my pain and suffering! Forgive all my sins! | 18Consider my affliction and trouble, and take away all my sins. |
Watch my enemies, for they outnumber me; they hate me and want to harm me. | 19Consider my enemies, for they are many, and they hate me with vicious hatred. |
Protect me and deliver me! Please do not let me be humiliated, for I have taken shelter in you! | 20Guard my soul and deliver me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in You. |
May integrity and godliness protect me, for I rely on you! | 21May integrity and uprightness preserve me, because I wait for You. |
O God, rescue Israel from all their distress! | 22Redeem Israel, O God, from all its distress. |
