New American Standard Bible 1995 | New Living Translation |
For the choir director; according to Jonath elem rehokim. A Mikhtam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me; Fighting all day long he oppresses me. | 1O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long. |
My foes have trampled upon me all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me. | 2I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me. |
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. | 3But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. |
In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? | 4I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? |
All day long they distort my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. | 5They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me. |
They attack, they lurk, They watch my steps, As they have waited to take my life. | 6They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me. |
Because of wickedness, cast them forth, In anger put down the peoples, O God! | 7Don’t let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down. |
You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? | 8You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. |
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me. | 9My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side! |
In God, whose word I praise, In the LORD, whose word I praise, | 10I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised. |
In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? | 11I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? |
Your vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You. | 12I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help. |
For You have delivered my soul from death, Indeed my feet from stumbling, So that I may walk before God In the light of the living. | 13For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light. |
