| 1Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, | 1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb |
| 2in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. | 2down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. |
| 3There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; | 3No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. |
| 4they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. | 4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. |
| 5And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever. | 5There will be no more night. | 6And he said to me, "These words are faithful and true"; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. | 6The angel said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place." |
| 7"And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book." | 7"Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll." |
| 8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. | 8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. | 9But he said to me, "Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. | 10And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. | 10Then he told me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near. |
| 11"Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy." | 11Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy." |
| 12"Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. | 12"Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. |
| 13"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." | 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. |
| 14Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. | 14"Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. |
| 15Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. | 15Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. |
| 16"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." | 16"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star." |
| 17The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. | 17The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let the one who hears say, "Come!" Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. |
| 18I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; | 18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. |
| 19and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. | 19And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. |
| 20He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. | 20He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. |
| 21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. | 21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen. |
