| 1Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, | 1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. It was flowing from the throne of God and the lamb. |
| 2in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. | 2Between the city street and the river, the tree of life was visible from each side. It produced twelve kinds of fruit, each month having its own fruit. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. |
| 3There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; | 3There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and the lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him |
| 4they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. | 4and see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. |
| 5And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever. | 5There will be no more night, and they will not need any light from lamps or the sun because the Lord God will shine on them. | 6And he said to me, "These words are faithful and true"; and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent His angel to show to His bond-servants the things which must soon take place. | 6He told me, "These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord God of the spirits and of the prophets has sent his messenger to show his servants the things that must happen soon." |
| 7"And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book." | 7"See! I am coming soon! How blessed is the person who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book!" |
| 8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. | 8I, John, heard and saw these things. When I had heard and seen them, I bowed down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing me these things. |
| 9But he said to me, "Do not do that. I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brethren the prophets and of those who heed the words of this book. Worship God." | 9But he told me, "Don't do that! I am a fellow servant with you, your brothers the prophets, and those who keep the words in this book. Worship God!" |
| 10And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. | 10Then he told me, "Don't seal up the words of the prophecy in this book, because the time is near. |
| 11"Let the one who does wrong, still do wrong; and the one who is filthy, still be filthy; and let the one who is righteous, still practice righteousness; and the one who is holy, still keep himself holy." | 11Let the one who does what is evil continue to do what is evil. Let the filthy person continue to be filthy. Let the righteous person continue to do what is right. And let the holy person continue to be holy." |
| 12"Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. | 12"See! I am coming soon! My reward is with me to repay everyone according to his behavior. |
| 13"I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." | 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. |
| 14Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. | 14"How blessed are those who wash their robes so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city! |
| 15Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. | 15Outside are dogs, sorcerers, immoral people, murderers, idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. |
| 16"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." | 16"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give this testimony to you for the churches. I am the root and descendent of David, the bright morning star." |
| 17The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. | 17The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" Let everyone who hears this say, "Come!" Let everyone who is thirsty come! Let anyone who wants the water of life take it as a gift! |
| 18I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; | 18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy in this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will strike him with the plagues that are written in this book. |
| 19and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. | 19If anyone takes away any words from the book of this prophecy, God will take away his portion of the tree of life and the holy city that are described in this book. |
| 20He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. | 20The one who is testifying to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon!" Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! |
| 21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. | 21May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen. |
