Psalm 42
NASB Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
1For the choir director. A Maskil of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God.1For the music director; a well-written song by the Korahites. As a deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God!
2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?2I thirst for God, for the living God. I say, "When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?"
3My tears have been my food day and night, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"3I cannot eat, I weep day and night; all day long they say to me, "Where is your God?"
4These things I remember and I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go along with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God, With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.4I will remember and weep! For I was once walking along with the great throng to the temple of God, shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival.
5Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence.5Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
6O my God, my soul is in despair within me; Therefore I remember You from the land of the Jordan And the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.6I am depressed, so I will pray to you while I am trapped here in the region of the upper Jordan, from Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
7Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.7One deep stream calls out to another at the sound of your waterfalls; all your billows and waves overwhelm me.
8The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night, A prayer to the God of my life.8By day the LORD decrees his loyal love, and by night he gives me a song, a prayer to the living God.
9I will say to God my rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"9I will pray to God, my high ridge: "Why do you ignore me? Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?"
10As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries revile me, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"10My enemies' taunts cut into me to the bone, as they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"
11Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.11Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
