A Psalm; a Song at the Dedication of the House. A Psalm of David. I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my enemies rejoice over me.1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me.
O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.
O LORD, You have brought up my soul from Sheol; You have kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit.3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave.
Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name.4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name.
For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning.
Now as for me, I said in my prosperity, "I will never be moved."6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended."
O LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, I was dismayed.7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified.
To You, O LORD, I called, And to the Lord I made supplication:8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy:
"What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty?
"Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me; O LORD, be my helper."10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!"
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy.
That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you.
