The LORD spoke further to Moses, saying,1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
"Make yourself two trumpets of silver, of hammered work you shall make them; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for having the camps set out.2Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.
"When both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the doorway of the tent of meeting.3And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
"Yet if only one is blown, then the leaders, the heads of the divisions of Israel, shall assemble before you.4And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.
"But when you blow an alarm, the camps that are pitched on the east side shall set out.5When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.
"When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are pitched on the south side shall set out; an alarm is to be blown for them to set out.6When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.
"When convening the assembly, however, you shall blow without sounding an alarm.7But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.
"The priestly sons of Aaron, moreover, shall blow the trumpets; and this shall be for you a perpetual statute throughout your generations.8And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.
"When you go to war in your land against the adversary who attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD your God, and be saved from your enemies.9And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
"Also in the day of your gladness and in your appointed feasts, and on the first days of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be as a reminder of you before your God. I am the LORD your God."10Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
Now in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth of the month, the cloud was lifted from over the tabernacle of the testimony;11And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.
and the sons of Israel set out on their journeys from the wilderness of Sinai. Then the cloud settled down in the wilderness of Paran.12And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.
So they moved out for the first time according to the commandment of the LORD through Moses.13And they first took their journey according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
The standard of the camp of the sons of Judah, according to their armies, set out first, with Nahshon the son of Amminadab, over its army,14In the first place went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah according to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.
and Nethanel the son of Zuar, over the tribal army of the sons of Issachar;15And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was Nethaneel the son of Zuar.
and Eliab the son of Helon over the tribal army of the sons of Zebulun.16And over the host of the tribe of the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.
Then the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who were carrying the tabernacle, set out.17And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle.
Next the standard of the camp of Reuben, according to their armies, set out with Elizur the son of Shedeur, over its army,18And the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.
and Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai over the tribal army of the sons of Simeon,19And over the host of the tribe of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.
and Eliasaph the son of Deuel was over the tribal army of the sons of Gad.20And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.
Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy objects; and the tabernacle was set up before their arrival.21And the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary: and the other did set up the tabernacle against they came.
Next the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim, according to their armies, was set out, with Elishama the son of Ammihud over its army,22And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.
and Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur over the tribal army of the sons of Manasseh;23And over the host of the tribe of the children of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.
and Abidan the son of Gideoni over the tribal army of the sons of Benjamin.24And over the host of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.
Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan, according to their armies, which formed the rear guard for all the camps, set out, with Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai over its army,25And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan set forward, which was the rereward of all the camps throughout their hosts: and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.
and Pagiel the son of Ochran over the tribal army of the sons of Asher;26And over the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ocran.
and Ahira the son of Enan over the tribal army of the sons of Naphtali.27And over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.
This was the order of march of the sons of Israel by their armies as they set out.28Thus were the journeyings of the children of Israel according to their armies, when they set forward.
Then Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We are setting out to the place of which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you'; come with us and we will do you good, for the LORD has promised good concerning Israel."29And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses' father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.
But he said to him, "I will not come, but rather will go to my own land and relatives."30And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.
Then he said, "Please do not leave us, inasmuch as you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will be as eyes for us.31And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.
"So it will be, if you go with us, that whatever good the LORD does for us, we will do for you."32And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.
Thus they set out from the mount of the LORD three days' journey, with the ark of the covenant of the LORD journeying in front of them for the three days, to seek out a resting place for them.33And they departed from the mount of the LORD three days' journey: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days' journey, to search out a resting place for them.
The cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from the camp.34And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp.
Then it came about when the ark set out that Moses said, "Rise up, O LORD! And let Your enemies be scattered, And let those who hate You flee before You."35And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.
When it came to rest, he said, "Return, O LORD, To the myriad thousands of Israel."36And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the many thousands of Israel.
