Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, | 1The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: |
shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; | 2Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; |
nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. | 3Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. |
And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. | 4And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. |
You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. | 5Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. |
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, | 6Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: |
casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. | 7Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. |
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. | 8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: |
But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. | 9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. |
After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. | 10But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. |
To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen. | 11To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. |
Through Silvanus, our faithful brother (for so I regard him), I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it! | 12By Silvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. |
She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings, and so does my son, Mark. | 13The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son. |
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ. | 14Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen. |
