New American Standard Bible 1995 | King James Bible |
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. | 1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. |
If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. | 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. |
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. | 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. |
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, | 4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, |
does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, | 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; |
does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; | 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; |
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. | 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. |
Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. | 8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. |
For we know in part and we prophesy in part; | 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. |
but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. | 10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. |
When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. | 11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. |
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. | 12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. |
But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. | 13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. |
