A Psalm of David. O LORD, I call upon You; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to You! | 1A Davidic psalm. LORD, I call on You; hurry to help me. Listen to my voice when I call on You. |
May my prayer be counted as incense before You; The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering. | 2May my prayer be set before You as incense, the raising of my hands as the evening offering. |
Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. | 3 LORD, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips. |
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice deeds of wickedness With men who do iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies. | 4Do not let my heart turn to any evil thing or perform wicked acts with men who commit sin. Do not let me feast on their delicacies. |
Let the righteous smite me in kindness and reprove me; It is oil upon the head; Do not let my head refuse it, For still my prayer is against their wicked deeds. | 5Let the righteous one strike me-- it is an act of faithful love; let him rebuke me-- it is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. Even now my prayer is against the evil acts of the wicked. |
Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the rock, And they hear my words, for they are pleasant. | 6When their rulers will be thrown off the sides of a cliff, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasing. |
As when one plows and breaks open the earth, Our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. | 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, turning up rocks, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. |
For my eyes are toward You, O GOD, the Lord; In You I take refuge; do not leave me defenseless. | 8But my eyes look to You, Lord GOD. I seek refuge in You; do not let me die. |
Keep me from the jaws of the trap which they have set for me, And from the snares of those who do iniquity. | 9Protect me from the trap they have set for me, and from the snares of evildoers. |
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I pass by safely. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. |
