1I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: | 1I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of His appearing and His kingdom: |
2preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. | 2Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching. |
3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, | 3For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. |
4and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. | 4They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths. |
5But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. | 5But as for you, be serious about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. |
