King James Bible | New International Version |
To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel. | 1For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song. God is renowned in Judah; in Israel his name is great. |
In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. | 2His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. |
There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah. | 3There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war. |
Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey. | 4You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game. |
The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands. | 5The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands. |
At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep. | 6At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still. |
Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry? | 7It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry? |
Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, | 8From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet-- |
When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah. | 9when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land. |
Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain. | 10Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained. |
Vow, and pay unto the LORD your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. | 11Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared. |
He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth. | 12He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth. |
