King James Bible | NET Bible |
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. | 1Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice--alive, holy, and pleasing to God--which is your reasonable service. |
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. | 2Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God--what is good and well-pleasing and perfect. |
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. | 3For by the grace given to me I say to every one of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to think with sober discernment, as God has distributed to each of you a measure of faith. |
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: | 4For just as in one body we have many members, and not all the members serve the same function, |
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. | 5so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members who belong to one another. |
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; | 6And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith. |
Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; | 7If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach; |
Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. | 8if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness. |
Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. | 9Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil, cling to what is good. |
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; | 10Be devoted to one another with mutual love, showing eagerness in honoring one another. |
Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; | 11Do not lag in zeal, be enthusiastic in spirit, serve the Lord. |
Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; | 12Rejoice in hope, endure in suffering, persist in prayer. |
Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. | 13Contribute to the needs of the saints, pursue hospitality. |
Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. | 14Bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse. |
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. | 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. |
Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. | 16Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly. Do not be conceited. |
Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. | 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people. |
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. | 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all people. |
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. | 19Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," says the Lord. |
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. | 20Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing this you will be heaping burning coals on his head. |
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. | 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |
