Psalm 38
KJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleInternational Standard Version
A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.1LORD! Do not rebuke me in your anger; do not correct me in your wrath,
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.2because your arrows have sunk deep into me, and your hand has come down hard on me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.3My body is unhealthy due to your anger, and my bones have no rest due to my sin.
For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.4My iniquities loom over my head; like a cumbersome burden, they are too heavy for me.
My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.5My wounds have putrefied and festered because of my foolishness.
I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.6I am bent over and walk about greatly bowed down; all day long I go around mourning.
For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.7My insides are burning and my body is unhealthy.
I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.8I am weak and utterly crushed; I cry out in distress because of my heart's anguish.
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.9Lord, all my longings are before you, and my groaning is not hidden from you.
My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.10My heart pounds, my strength fails me, even the gleam in my eye is gone.
My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.11As for my friends and my neighbors, they stand aloof from my distress; even my close relatives stand at a distance.
They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.12Those who seek my life lay snares for me; those who seek to do me harm brag all day long about their wicked planning.
But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.13I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth.
Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.14Indeed, I have become like a man who hears nothing, and in whose mouth there is no rebuke.
For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.15Because I have placed my hope in you, LORD, you will answer, Lord, my God.
For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.16For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, as they congratulate themselves when my foot slips."
For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.17Indeed, I am being set up for a fall, and I am continuously reminded of my pain.
For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.18I confess my iniquity, and my sin troubles me.
But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.19But my enemies are alive and well; those who hate me for no reason are numerous.
They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.20They reward my good with evil, opposing me because I seek to do good.
Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.21Don't forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be so distant from me.
Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.22Come quickly and help me, Lord, my deliverer.
