Proverbs 11
KJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleInternational Standard Version
A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.1The LORD hates false scales, but he delights in accurate weights.
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.2When pride appears, disgrace accompanies it, but humility is present with wisdom.
The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.3The integrity of the righteous guides them, but the hypocrisy of the treacherous destroys them.
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.4Wealth won't help in the time of judgment, but righteousness will deliver from death.
The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.5The righteousness of the innocent creates a level path, but the wicked fall by their wickedness.
The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the treacherous are trapped by their evil desires.
When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.7When a wicked person dies, his hope vanishes; and what he expected from his scheming comes to nothing.
The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.8The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead.
An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.9By what he says, the godless person can destroy his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.10The city rejoices when the righteous prosper, and when the wicked perish there is jubilation.
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.11Through the blessing of the righteous a city is built up, but what the wicked say tears it down.
He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.12Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but the discerning man controls his comments.
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.13Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety.14A nation falls through a lack of guidance, but victory comes through the counsel of many.
He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.15Securing a loan for a stranger will bring suffering, but by refusing to do so, one remains safe.
A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.16A gracious woman attains honor, but ruthless men attain wealth.
The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.17A gracious man benefits himself, but the cruel person damages himself.
The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.18Evil people earn deceptive wages, but those who plant righteousness are truly rewarded.
As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.19Genuine righteousness leads to life, but whoever pursues evil will die.
They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.20Devious minds are abhorrent to the LORD, but those whose ways are innocent are his delight.
Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.21Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free.
As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.22Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.23The desire of the righteous is to seek good, but the hope of the wicked results in wrath.
There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.24Those who give freely gain even more; others hold back what they owe, becoming even poorer.
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.25A generous person will prosper, and anyone who gives water will receive a flood in return.
He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.26People will curse whoever withholds grain, but blessing will come to whoever is selling.
He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.27The person seeking good will find favor, but anyone who searches for evil—it will find him!
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.28The person who trusts in his wealth will fall, but the righteous will flourish like green leaves.
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.29Whoever troubles his household will inherit the wind, and the fool will be a servant to the wise.
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who wins people is wise.
Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.31If the righteous receive what they are due here on earth, how much more will the wicked and the sinner.
