King James Bible | English Standard Version |
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? | 1Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? |
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, | 2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, |
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. | 3“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” |
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. | 4He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. |
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. | 5Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, |
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. | 6“As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” |
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. | 7I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. |
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. | 8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. |
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. | 9You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” |
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. | 10Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. |
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. | 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. |
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. | 12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. |
