King James Bible | Berean Study Bible |
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? | 1Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? |
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, | 2The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together, against the LORD and against His Anointed One: |
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. | 3“Let us break Their chains and cast away Their cords.” |
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. | 4The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them. |
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. | 5Then He rebukes them in His anger, and terrifies them in His fury: |
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. | 6“I have installed My King on Zion, upon My holy mountain.” |
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. | 7I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father. |
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. | 8Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession. |
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. | 9You will break them with an iron scepter; You will shatter them like pottery.” |
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. | 10Therefore be wise, O kings; be admonished, O judges of the earth. |
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. | 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. |
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. | 12Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him. |
