At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood. | 1At that time the LORD said to me, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the originals, come up to Me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood. |
And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark. | 2And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; and you are to place them in the ark.” |
And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand. | 3So I made an ark of acacia wood, chiseled out two stone tablets like the originals, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. |
And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me. | 4And the LORD wrote on the tablets what had been written previously, the Ten Commandments that He had spoken to you on the mountain out of the fire on the day of the assembly. The LORD gave them to me, |
And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me. | 5and I went back down the mountain and placed the tablets in the ark I had made, as the LORD had commanded me; and there they have remained. |
And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead. | 6The Israelites traveled from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah, where Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest. |
From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters. | 7From there they traveled to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water. |
At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day. | 8At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name, as they do to this day. |
Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him. | 9That is why Levi has no portion or inheritance among his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God promised him. |
And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee. | 10I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, like the first time, and that time the LORD again listened to me and agreed not to destroy you. |
And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them. | 11Then the LORD said to me, “Get up. Continue your journey ahead of the people, that they may enter and possess the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.” |
And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, | 12And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, |
To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? | 13and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD that I am giving you this day for your own good? |
Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is. | 14Behold, to the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, and the earth and everything in it. |
Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day. | 15Yet the LORD has set His affection on your fathers and loved them. And He has chosen you, their descendants after them, above all the peoples, even to this day. |
Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. | 16Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and stiffen your necks no more. |
For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: | 17For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and accepting no bribe. |
He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment. | 18He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and He loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing. |
Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. | 19So you also must love the foreigner, since you yourselves were foreigners in the land of Egypt. |
Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. | 20You are to fear the LORD your God and serve Him. Hold fast to Him and take your oaths in His name. |
He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen. | 21He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome wonders that your eyes have seen. |
Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude. | 22Your fathers went down to Egypt, seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky. |
