International Standard Version | New Living Translation |
My heart is overflowing with good news; I speak what I have composed to the king; my tongue is like the pen of an articulate scribe. | 1Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem about the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet. |
You are the most handsome of Adam's descendants; grace has anointed your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. | 2You are the most handsome of all. Gracious words stream from your lips. God himself has blessed you forever. |
Strap your sword to your side, mighty warrior, along with your honor and majesty. | 3Put on your sword, O mighty warrior! You are so glorious, so majestic! |
In your majesty ride forth for the cause of truth, humility, and righteousness; and your strong right hand will teach you awesome things. | 4In your majesty, ride out to victory, defending truth, humility, and justice. Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds! |
Your arrows are sharpened to penetrate the hearts of the king's enemies. People will fall under you. | 5Your arrows are sharp, piercing your enemies’ hearts. The nations fall beneath your feet. |
Your throne, God, exists forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a righteous scepter. | 6Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever. You rule with a scepter of justice. |
You love justice and hate wickedness. That is why God, even your God, has anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness. | 7You love justice and hate evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else. |
All your clothes are scented with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad. | 8Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes. In ivory palaces the music of strings entertains you. |
The king's daughters are among your honorable women; the queen, dressed in gold from Ophir, has taken her place at your right hand." | 9Kings’ daughters are among your noble women. At your right side stands the queen, wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir! |
Listen, daughter! Consider and pay attention. Forget your people and your father's house, | 10Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say. Forget your people and your family far away. |
and the king will greatly desire your beauty. Because he is your lord, you should bow in respect before him. | 11For your royal husband delights in your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. |
The daughter of Tyre will come with a wedding gift; wealthy people will entreat your favor. | 12The princess of Tyre will shower you with gifts. The wealthy will beg your favor. |
In her chamber, the king's daughter is glorious; her clothing is embroidered with gold thread. | 13The bride, a princess, looks glorious in her golden gown. |
In embroidered garments she is presented to the king. Her virgin companions who follow her train will be presented to you. | 14In her beautiful robes, she is led to the king, accompanied by her bridesmaids. |
Filled with joy and gladness, they are presented when they enter the king's palace. | 15What a joyful and enthusiastic procession as they enter the king’s palace! |
Your sons will take the place of your ancestors, and you will set them up as princes in all the earth. | 16Your sons will become kings like their father. You will make them rulers over many lands. |
From generation to generation, I will cause your name to be remembered. Therefore people will thank you forever and ever. | 17I will bring honor to your name in every generation. Therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever. |
