My heart is overflowing with good news; I speak what I have composed to the king; my tongue is like the pen of an articulate scribe. | 1For the director of music. To the tune of "Lilies." Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. A wedding song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. |
You are the most handsome of Adam's descendants; grace has anointed your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever. | 2You are the most excellent of men and your lips have been anointed with grace, since God has blessed you forever. |
Strap your sword to your side, mighty warrior, along with your honor and majesty. | 3Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one; clothe yourself with splendor and majesty. |
In your majesty ride forth for the cause of truth, humility, and righteousness; and your strong right hand will teach you awesome things. | 4In your majesty ride forth victoriously in the cause of truth, humility and justice; let your right hand achieve awesome deeds. |
Your arrows are sharpened to penetrate the hearts of the king's enemies. People will fall under you. | 5Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king's enemies; let the nations fall beneath your feet. |
Your throne, God, exists forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a righteous scepter. | 6Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. |
You love justice and hate wickedness. That is why God, even your God, has anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness. | 7You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. |
All your clothes are scented with myrrh, aloes, and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments have made you glad. | 8All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. |
The king's daughters are among your honorable women; the queen, dressed in gold from Ophir, has taken her place at your right hand." | 9Daughters of kings are among your honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. |
Listen, daughter! Consider and pay attention. Forget your people and your father's house, | 10Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father's house. |
and the king will greatly desire your beauty. Because he is your lord, you should bow in respect before him. | 11Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. |
The daughter of Tyre will come with a wedding gift; wealthy people will entreat your favor. | 12The city of Tyre will come with a gift, people of wealth will seek your favor. |
In her chamber, the king's daughter is glorious; her clothing is embroidered with gold thread. | 13All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. |
In embroidered garments she is presented to the king. Her virgin companions who follow her train will be presented to you. | 14In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her-- those brought to be with her. |
Filled with joy and gladness, they are presented when they enter the king's palace. | 15Led in with joy and gladness, they enter the palace of the king. |
Your sons will take the place of your ancestors, and you will set them up as princes in all the earth. | 16Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. |
From generation to generation, I will cause your name to be remembered. Therefore people will thank you forever and ever. | 17I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever. |
