| 17Do not pay anyone back evil for evil, but focus your thoughts on what is right in the sight of all people. | 17Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. |
| 18If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with all people. | 18If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. |
| 19Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath. For it is written, "Vengeance belongs to me.
