1I cry out to God! I cry out to God and he hears me. | 1For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me. |
2When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; my hands were raised at night and they did not grow weary. I refused to be comforted. | 2In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted. |
3I remember God, and I groan; I meditate, while my spirit grows faint. Interlude | 3I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah) |
4You kept my eyes open; I was troubled and couldn't speak. | 4You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak. |
5I thought of ancient times, considering years long past. | 5I thought about the days of old, about ancient times. |
6During the night I remembered my song. I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders. | 6I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening. |
7Will the Lord reject me forever and not show favor again? | 7I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor? |
8Has his gracious love ceased forever? Will his promise be unfulfilled in future generations? | 8Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever? |
9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion? Interlude | 9Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?" |
10So I say: "It causes me pain that the right hand of the Most High has changed." | 10Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive. |
11I will remember the LORD'S deeds; indeed, I will remember your awesome deeds from long ago. | 11I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago! |

13God, your way is holy. What god is like our great God? | 13O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God? |
14God, you are the one performing awesome deeds. You reveal your might among the nations. | 14You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations. |
15You delivered your people— the descendants of Jacob and Joseph— with your power. Interlude | 15You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah) |
