International Standard Version | NET Bible |
If the LORD had not been on our side— let Israel now say— | 1A song of ascents, by David. "If the LORD had not been on our side"--let Israel say this!-- |
if the LORD had not been on our side, when men came against us, | 2if the LORD had not been on our side, when men attacked us, |
then they would have devoured us alive, when their anger burned against us. | 3they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger raged against us. |
Then the flood waters would have overwhelmed us, the torrent would have flooded over us; | 4The water would have overpowered us; the current would have overwhelmed us. |
the swollen waters would have swept us away. | 5The raging water would have overwhelmed us. |
Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us as prey to their teeth. | 6The LORD deserves praise, for he did not hand us over as prey to their teeth. |
We have escaped like a bird from the hunter's trap. The trap has been broken, and we have escaped. | 7We escaped with our lives, like a bird from a hunter's snare. The snare broke, and we escaped. |
Our help is in the name of the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth. | 8Our deliverer is the LORD, the Creator of heaven and earth. |
