Job 37
ISV Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionChristian Standard Bible
"Now I'll conclude with this: my heart is trembling violently; it feels like it's about to leap from my body!1My heart pounds at this and leaps from my chest.
Listen carefully to his thundering voice; to the sound that rumbles from his mouth.2Just listen to his thunderous voice and the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
He releases his lightning throughout the sky, to the ends of the earth.3He lets it loose beneath the entire sky; his lightning to the ends of the earth.
His thunder roars after it; his majestic voice will thunder; and no one can trace them once his voice has been heard.4Then there comes a roaring sound; God thunders with his majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when his rumbling voice is heard.
"God thunders with his wondrous voice; he does awesome works that we don't comprehend.5God thunders wondrously with his voice; he does great things that we cannot comprehend.
For he says to the snow, 'Fall to the earth.' He tells the rain, 'Pour down,' then it rains profusely.6For he says to the snow, "Fall to the earth," and the torrential rains, his mighty torrential rains,
"He puts a limit to the skill of every person; to delineate all people from what they do.7serve as his sign to all mankind, so that all men may know his work.
"Then a beast enters its lair and remains in its den.8The wild animals enter their lairs and stay in their dens.
"From the south, a whirlwind proceeds, out of the icy north winds.9The windstorm comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds.
From the breath of God ice is produced, and a wide body of water is frozen.10Ice is formed by the breath of God, and watery expanses are frozen.
He also loads the clouds with moisture, scattering his lightning with the clouds.11He saturates clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them.
It whirls about in circles at his direction to accomplish all that he commands throughout the surface of the entire world,12They swirl about, turning round and round at his direction, accomplishing everything he commands them over the surface of the inhabited world.
whether for discipline on his land or to demonstrate his gracious love, he causes it to be realized."13He causes this to happen for punishment, for his land, or for his faithful love.
"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous attributes of God.14Listen to this, Job. Stop and consider God's wonders.
Do you know how God ordains them, and makes his lightning to flash throughout his clouds?15Do you know how God directs his clouds or makes their lightning flash?
Do you understand his wondrous work of balancing the clouds, the one whose knowledge is perfect,16Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonderful works of him who has perfect knowledge?
you whose garments are hot, even though the land is cooled by a south wind?17You whose clothes get hot when the south wind brings calm to the land,
Can you spread out the skies like he does; can you cast them as one might a mirror?18can you help God spread out the skies as hard as a cast metal mirror?
Tell us! What are we to say to him? Can we prepare our case to face him when our faces are in darkness?19Teach us what we should say to him; we cannot prepare our case because of our darkness.
Has it been relayed to God that I want to talk? Can a person speak when he is confused?"20Should he be told that I want to speak? Can a man speak when he is confused?
"So then, the sun is too bright to gaze at, is it not? The sky is swept clean by the wind that blows, is it not?21Now no one can even look at the sun when it is in the skies, after a wind has swept through and cleared the clouds away.
From the north he brings gold; around God is awesome splendor.22Yet out of the north he comes, shrouded in a golden glow; awesome majesty surrounds him.
We cannot find the Almighty— he is majestic in power and justice, and overflowing with righteousness; he never oppresses.23The Almighty--we cannot reach him--he is exalted in power! He will not violate justice and abundant righteousness,
Therefore humanity fears him, which none of the wise can quite comprehend."24therefore, men fear him. He does not look favorably on any who are wise in heart.
