International Standard Version | Berean Study Bible |
Fools say to themselves, "There is no God." They are corrupt and commit evil deeds; not one of them practices what is good. | 1For the choirmaster. Of David. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt; their acts are vile. There is no one who does good. |
The LORD looks down from the heavens upon humanity to see if anyone shows discernment as he searches for God. | 2The LORD looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God. |
All have turned away, together they have become corrupt; no one practices what is good, not even one. | 3All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. |
Will those who do evil ever learn? They devour my people like they devour bread, and never call on the LORD. | 4Will the workers of iniquity never learn? They devour my people like bread; they refuse to call upon the LORD. |
There they are seized with terror, because God is with those who are righteous. | 5There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is in the company of the righteous. |
You would frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the LORD is their refuge. | 6You sinners frustrate the plans of the oppressed, yet the LORD is their shelter. |
May Israel's deliverance come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, Jacob will rejoice, and Israel will be glad. | 7Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come from Zion! When the LORD restores His captive people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad! |
