For the choir director: according to Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and He will hear me. | 1To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph. I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. |
I sought the Lord in my day of trouble. My hands were continually lifted up all night long; I refused to be comforted. | 2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. |
I think of God; I groan; I meditate; my spirit becomes weak. Selah | 3I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. |
You have kept me from closing my eyes; I am troubled and cannot speak. | 4Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak. |
I consider days of old, years long past. | 5I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. |
At night I remember my music; I meditate in my heart, and my spirit ponders." | 6I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. |
Will the Lord reject forever and never again show favor? | 7Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? |
Has His faithful love ceased forever? Is His promise at an end for all generations? | 8Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger withheld His compassion?" Selah | 9Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. |
So I say, "I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed." | 10And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. |
I will remember the LORD's works; yes, I will remember Your ancient wonders. | 11I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. |
I will reflect on all You have done and meditate on Your actions. | 12I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. |
God, Your way is holy. What god is great like God? | 13Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? |
You are the God who works wonders; You revealed Your strength among the peoples. | 14Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. |
With power You redeemed Your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. |
The waters saw You, God. The waters saw You; they trembled. Even the depths shook. | 16The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled. |
The clouds poured down water. The storm clouds thundered; Your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad. |
The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; lightning lit up the world. The earth shook and quaked. | 18The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook. |
Your way went through the sea and Your path through the great waters, but Your footprints were unseen. | 19Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known. |
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
