Holman Christian Standard Bible | King James Bible |
It is widely reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and the kind of sexual immorality that is not even tolerated among the Gentiles--a man is living with his father's wife. | 1It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. |
And you are inflated with pride, instead of filled with grief so that he who has committed this act might be removed from your congregation. | 2And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. |
For though I am absent in body but present in spirit, I have already decided about the one who has done this thing as though I were present. | 3For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, |
When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus with my spirit and with the power of our Lord Jesus, | 4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, |
turn that one over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord. | 5To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. |
Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast permeates the whole batch of dough? | 6Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? |
Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch. You are indeed unleavened, for Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. | 7Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: |
Therefore, let us observe the feast, not with old yeast or with the yeast of malice and evil but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. | 8Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. |
I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. | 9I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: |
I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy and swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. | 10Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. |
But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or a swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. | 11But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. |
For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside? | 12For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? |
But God judges outsiders. Put away the evil person from among yourselves. | 13But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. |
