Holman Christian Standard Bible | International Standard Version |
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, and His robe filled the temple. | 1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting upon his throne, high and exalted. The train of his robe filled the Temple. |
Seraphim were standing above Him; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. | 2The seraphim stood above him. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he was flying. |
And one called to another: Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts; His glory fills the whole earth. | 3They kept on calling to each other: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of the Heavenly Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!" |
The foundations of the doorways shook at the sound of their voices, and the temple was filled with smoke. | 4The foundations of the thresholds quaked at the sound of those who kept calling out, and the Temple was filled with smoke. |
Then I said: Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Hosts. | 5"How terrible it will be for me!" I cried, "because I am ruined! I'm a man with unclean lips, and I live among a people with unclean lips! And my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of the Heavenly Armies!" |
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, and in his hand was a glowing coal that he had taken from the altar with tongs. | 6Then one of the seraphim flew to me, carrying a burning coal in his hand that he had taken from the altar with tongs. |
He touched my mouth with it and said: Now that this has touched your lips, your wickedness is removed and your sin is atoned for. | 7He touched my mouth and said, "Look! Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt is taken away, and your sins atoned for." |
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: Who should I send? Who will go for Us? I said: Here I am. Send me. | 8Then I heard the voice of the LORD as he was asking, "Whom will I send? Who will go for us?" "Here I am!" I replied. "Send me." |
And He replied: Go! Say to these people: Keep listening, but do not understand; keep looking, but do not perceive. | 9"Go!" he responded. "Tell this people: "'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.' |
Dull the minds of these people; deafen their ears and blind their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed. | 10Dull the mind of this people, deafen their ears, and blind their eyes. By doing so, they won't see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their minds, turn back, and be healed." |
Then I said, "Until when, Lord?" And He replied: Until cities lie in ruins without inhabitants, houses are without people, the land is ruined and desolate, | 11Then I asked, "For how long, LORD?" He replied: "Until cities lie waste, without inhabitants, and houses without people; and the land becomes utterly desolate. |
and the LORD drives the people far away, leaving great emptiness in the land. | 12Until the LORD removes people far away, and there are many empty places in the middle of the land. |
Though a tenth will remain in the land, it will be burned again. Like the terebinth or the oak that leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed is the stump. | 13Even though a tenth of its people remain in it, it will once again be burned, like a terebinth or an oak tree, the stump of which, though the tree has been felled, still contains holy seed." |
