About the times and the seasons: Brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you. 1Now you do not need to have anything written to you about times and dates, brothers,
For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 2for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
When they say, "Peace and security," then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains come on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 3When people say, "There is peace and security," destruction will strike them as suddenly as labor pains come to a pregnant woman, and they will not be able to escape.
But you, brothers, are not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief.4However, brothers, you are not in the darkness, in order that the Day of the Lord might surprise you like a thief.
For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.5For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to darkness.
So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be serious. 6Therefore, let's not fall asleep like others do, but let's stay awake and be sober.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 7For people who go to sleep, go to sleep at night; and people who get drunk, get drunk at night.
But since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation. 8But since we belong to the day, let's be sober. We must put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.
For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,9For God has not destined us to receive wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus, the Messiah,
who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.10who died for us in order that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing. 11So then, encourage one another and build each other up, as you are doing.
Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, 12Brothers, we ask you to show your appreciation for those who work among you, set an example for you in the Lord, and instruct you.
and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. 13Hold them in the highest regard, loving them because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
And we exhort you, brothers: warn those who are irresponsible, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 14We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are idle, cheer up those who are discouraged, and help those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.
See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for all. 15Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else.
Rejoice always! 16Always be joyful.
Pray constantly. 17Continually be prayerful.
Give thanks in everything, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 18In everything be thankful, because this is God's will for you in the Messiah Jesus.
Don't stifle the Spirit. 19Do not put out the Spirit's fire.
Don't despise prophecies, 20Do not despise prophecies.
but test all things. Hold on to what is good. 21Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good.
Stay away from every kind of evil. 22Keep away from every kind of evil.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely. And may your spirit, soul, and body be kept sound and blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23May the God of peace himself make you holy in every way. And may your whole being—spirit, soul, and body—remain blameless when our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, appears.
He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.24The one who calls you is faithful, and he will continue to be faithful.
Brothers, pray for us also. 25Brothers, pray for us.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brothers.27I order you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. 28May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with you! Amen.
