English Standard Version | New Living Translation |
If it had not been the LORD who was on our side— let Israel now say— | 1What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat: |
if it had not been the LORD who was on our side when people rose up against us, | 2What if the LORD had not been on our side when people attacked us? |
then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; | 3They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger. |
then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; | 4The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. |
then over us would have gone the raging waters. | 5Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives. |
Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! | 6Praise the LORD, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! |
We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! | 7We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! |
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth. | 8Our help is from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. |
